This day’s work was to clear weeds from the banks of the Upper River Itchen at the stretch between the A272 and the confluence of this stream and that from Bramdean. Due to environmental problems, this location had not been attended to for two years.
The weather for this period was very dry with very little rain. In consequence, the source pond, 750 yards to the South was dry. The part of the stream between the pond and the A 272 is to be left untouched to guard against the event of a sudden rain storm causing a large amount of silt to be released into the stream.

The height of the grasses around can be clearly seen in this picture.
