The group’s task was to clear weeds from the outflow from the source pond into Jo Corbett’s field (Field 6). This then runs back into National Trust property which has had recent work carried out on it.

Kilmeston Road Field (45a) draining via a ditch
Muddy Lane which has had significant flooding problems.

The drain is underground to feed into the Itchen source pond.
At the lower end of the source pond the flow travels over a weir and then, via a culvert under the B3046 Kilmeston Road. There has been flooding problems on this road.

The flow exiting the culvert. The benefit of weed control to the stream flow is apparent.
Here is the group stretched along the draining channels in Field 6. The stream flows away from the camera (about the middle of the image) to the flow across the next field (NT) to flow under the bridge on the A272.

Part of the group clearing just below the culvert exit.
A short breather to discuss local, national & international news.
