The task for April 2026 was to ring cut the Ivy around the trees in Robert Young’s field next to Mariners Farm (Lower Lamborough).
The principle is to cut a length off each Ivy root about 1m long. That way the Ivy is starved of nutrients and will eventually perish.
The reason for cutting the Ivy from the base of the trees was to stop the Ivy acting as a sail in the Winter Storms and up rooting the trees. In Summer the Ivy stops the sun from producing feed for the leaves by shadowing the leaves out.

The trees to be cut.

Hacking in through the freshly growing undergrowth.
It was important to avoid walking on the field as it had just been prepared and had seed sown.
The cutting in progress. Not the easiest to accomplish.

The result – severed Ivy roots.
